Learning Through Practice: Factors & Considerations

Non-pedagogical factors may seem peripheral to the main educational considerations presented above, however they play an important part in the success of the pilot study.

First & Foremost, student preparedness:

1.     The level of sophistication and maturity of the incoming groups in the recent years have been adequately matching the changing needs and increasing complexity of our global society.
2.     They are aware of the opportunity to learn in non-traditional ways and are ready to adjust to new learning challenges.

(A blessing to me.)

Environmental & situational factors serve as major stimulants:

1.     The accelerated rise of China’s status in the international scene,
2.     Modern technological advancements used to maximize a nuanced and engaging cultural exchange,
3.     An increasing demographic of Asian high-school graduates coming to western higher education institutions,
4.     New development in the continually expanding frontiers of the international job market.

Combined with the gradual maturing of globalization in a multitude of social-economical factors, it would not be responsible to ignore the need to think out of the box and adapt teaching and learning methodology.

Teaching language, or any other social science courses for that matter, must stay abreast with time and events on and off campus. It is essential to make teaching or education functional and relevant.
