美国古汉语教学评议

摘 要:在对外汉语教学界里,对古汉语最大误解是视文言文为“死文字”(dead language),而白话文为“活语言”(living tongue)。把现代汉语和古代汉语当作两个全然不相干的语言。殊不知古今汉语有着血肉交织的关系,真所谓“你中有我,我中有你”,而此处所谓的“死”,绝不意味着无生命(lifeless),而是指其结构之固定(fixed)。古汉语教学在海外的历 史比现代汉语早得多,但在教学法的变化上却非常有限,近百年来,主要的教学法始终还是停留 在翻译, 即把古汉语翻成英文,基本上也就完成了教和学的过程。在选材上则始终采取由古及今的作法,从先秦两汉下及明清。这是一个难易倒置的顺序。本文拟就这几点,分析其利弊,并提出相应的建议。
